The Prosecuting Attorney is an elected official with a four year term of office. Elections are on the partisan ballot and occur during the same years as presidential elections. The Prosecutor is responsible for a wide array of legal functions within a county. These include the following:

Reviewing and authorizing police requests for criminal complaints and warrants.

Representing the People of Michigan in state law criminal prosecutions and juvenile delinquency cases.

Representing the People of Michigan and the Michigan Department of Human Services in cases of child abuse and neglect.

Representing the People of Michigan and the Michigan Department of Human Services in cases involving the collection of financial support for minor children.

Representing the Lapeer County Board of Commissioners in civil matters.

Representing plaintiffs and the Michigan Department of Community Health in mental health hearings.

Chairing the County Concealed Weapon Licensing Board.

Serving as the chief law enforcement officer of the County.
