The Prosecuting Attorney is an elected official with a four year term of office.  Elections are on the partisan ballot and occur during the same years as presidential elections. The Prosecutor is responsible for a wide array of legal functions within a county. These  include the following:

· Reviews and authorizes police requests for criminal complaints and warrants. 

· Represents the People of Michigan in state law criminal prosecutions and juvenile delinquency cases.

· Represents the People of Michigan and the Michigan Department of Human Services in cases of child abuse and neglect.

· Represents the People of Michigan and the Michigan Department of Human Services in cases involving the collection of financial support for minor children

· Represents the County Board of Commissioners in matters concerning civil law.

· Represents plaintiffs and the Michigan Department of Community Health in mental health hearings.

· Is the chairperson of the County Gun Board.

· Is the chief law enforcement officer of the County.

The Prosecuting Attorney is the Chief Law Enforcement Officer  of the County
