Under the Michigan Crime Victim’s Rights Act the victim of a crime has the right to be notified and participate in all stages of the criminal justice process. How do I obtain  a Personal Protection Order (PPO)?

This is a link to a web page maintained by the Michigan Court Center. It contains the instructions and forms for obtaining a Personal Protection Order (PPO).  Applications for PPOs in Lapeer County must be filed in the Lapeer County Circuit Court, which is located on the second floor of the Lapeer County Complex Building. I have suffered a financial loss as a result of a crime.  What do I do?

This is a link to a web page maintained by the Michigan Department of Community It explains how you may be eligible to obtain help from the Michigan Crime Victim Compensation Fund.  In addition, Michigan law requires criminal defendant’s to pay restitution for property damage and or loss which occurs as the result of a crime.  Please contact the number above to obtain additional information regarding restitution.
