Lapeer
County Prosecutor Byron Konschuh Gets "Crime Fighter Award"
(Lansing)
FIGHT CRIME: INVEST IN KIDS MICHIGAN
a statewide crime prevention non-profit organization led by more than 350 of
Michigan's best-known police chiefs, sheriffs, prosecutors and crime survivors
-- honored Lapeer County Prosecutor Byron Konschuh with FIGHT CRIME'S prestigious
"Crime Fighter Award" during the awards banquet at the Prosecuting Attorneys
Association of Michigan's annual winter training conference on February 9, 2006.
Washtenaw County Prosecutor Brian Mackie -- the
statewide co-chairman of FIGHT CRIME: INVEST IN KIDS MICHIGAN, presented
the award to Prosecutor Konschuh.
Mackie
said, "Preventing crime at the front end is in each communities’ best interest
and in the best interest of our children. I am honored to convey FIGHT CRIME'S
prestigious "Crime Fighter Award" to one of our own for his outstanding support
and leadership on state after-school funding and policy development."
Mackie added, "Lapeer County Prosecutor Byron Konschuh has been at the forefront
of preventing crime specifically through his efforts to pass legislation to
establish the Michigan After-School Partnership. The Partnership is a statewide
network aimed at developing a plan to ensure access to and funding for
after-school programs for all school-age children. In addition, Prosecutor
Konschuh’s testimony last fall before the House Committee on Family and Children
Services (chaired by Rep. John Stahl R-Lapeer) was crucial to the passage of
House Bill 5110 - a measure to clarify the Child Day Care Act as its licensure
standards apply to after-school programs. The bill was signed into law by
Governor Granholm in early November 2005."
