Former deputy lands in a jail cell

Suspect convicted in 19 felonies

Genesee County — (05/13/05)--A former Lapeer County sheriff's deputy has been convicted of 19 felonies in a case involving sex with underage girls.

The Lapeer County prosecutor calls him "a classic pedophile."

Former Deputy Kevin Chittick is being held at the Genesee County Jail without bond. He was convicted of having sex with two girls in three different counties: Genesee, Oscoda and Lapeer.

Chittick's attorney Mike Manley says while he's disappointed in the verdict, he is happy Chittick wasn't sentenced for first-degree criminal sexual conduct, which would have sent him to life in prison.

Manley is planning an appeal, however. Chittick will be sentenced in July and faces a maximum of 15 years in prison.
