NEW BAD CHECK PROGRAM BEGINS
The Lapeer County Prosecutor's Office is teaming up with Heartland Payment Systems to help local merchants increase their collection rates on bad checks. The new program, called STOP LOSS, allows Heartland to act as the collection agent for the Prosecutor against persons who have written a bad check. When payment is made on the bad check Heartland will reimburse the local merchant. If payment is not made Heartland will send the bad check to the Prosecutor's Office for criminal charges.
An overview of the process is shown below. If you wish to participate in the STOP LOSS program please contact Robert Dennanny of Heartland Payment Systems, at (810) 664-6355.
